Our History

The Hellenic Cultural Museum, sponsored by the Hellenic Cultural Association, was officially dedicated Sunday, May 3, 1992. The Hellenic Cultural Museum is acknowledged to be the first authentic Hellenic Cultural Museum in America.  The Museum has received awards for excellence on a national regional level.

On January 19, 1996, the Utah State Legislature conferred a Commemorative Resolution upon the Hellenic Cultural Association for sponsoring cultural programs in observance of the Utah Centennial (1896-1996).    The Museum emphasizes the personal aspect of the Greek immigrants to Utah and their descendants.  A Greek presence in Utah dates back as far as 1870.  The Museum reflects the life of the early Greek immigrants - their struggles, achievements, social life and tragedies.  Displays include religion; photographs, movies, videos, tape interviews, recordings, costumes, dolls, old letters, military service, manuscripts, early mining tools, artifacts from Greece, and much more.

The Museum Gift Shop specializes in hard-to-find books and cultural objects, souvenirs, tapes, Greek language instruction tapes, recipes on Greek cooking, videos, histories, etc.  The new Hellenic Cultural Library, located in the Hellenic Memorial Cultural Center, was dedicated Sunday, May 4, 1997 and is prepared to serve serious readers and scholars.
